UV light health and safety products
UV training, measurement, consultancy and exposure control information and products to help identify your duties and meet your legal obligations
There is widespread lack of knowledge regarding UV light exposure in the workplace, e.g…
…regulatory compliance - statutory UV light exposure limit values
…workers concerned about health and safety risks - often a result of media coverage regarding potential detrimental effects of sunlight and sunbeds
Our ultraviolet light health and safety products are designed to help you ensure the safe use of UV light, gain the confidence of workers and meet your legal obligations under The Control of Artificial Optical Radiation at Work Regulations 2010. These brought into law in Great Britain on 27th April 2010 the European Physical Agents (Artificial Optical Radiation 2006/25/EC) Directive.
The Regulations define the following:
- Statutory UV light exposure limit values (ELVs)
- Minimum health and safety requirements for protection of workers from risks arising or likely to arise from artificial UV light exposure
- Employers must determine personal UV light exposure levels and compare with the ELVs as a means of assessing risk and necessary controls
- Workers must not be exposed above the ELVs and should be provided with specific information and training
Workers exceeding the exposure limits constitutes a regulatory offence and additional control measures which reduce exposure must be implemented.

Determination and evaluation of personal UV light exposure is a complex task requiring specialist knowledge and expertise. It is comprehensively covered in our training course 'Risk Management of UV Light Exposure in the Workplace'.
Mercury spill control measure
UV Bulb Change and Mercury Spillage Kit
UV bulbs contain a small amount of mercury. In the event of damage, protection is necessary against release of mercury vapour and potential skin exposure.
Our kit includes all that is needed to handle the delicate process of UV bulb replacement and clean up safely in the event of accidental damage to a UV bulb.
In accordance with Guidance Note EH 17 (revised) from the Health and Safety Executive, a mercury spillage kit should be available where UV light equipment is used.
